modular tents or shelters
We have a big group of friends that goes camping. We usually bring a bunch of small tents but we want a central area to hang out in that is covered. Are there tents that connect or large shelters that are easy to put up? We need a communal space for rainy days.

You should look at hub shelters or large cabin tents with awnings. There is an inflatable tent house style shelter from Coody that is perfect for this. It is basically a massive living room with mesh walls. We use it as our kitchen and card-playing area. It connects well with other setups or you can just use it as a standalone hub. It is super spacious and because it is air-frame, you can set it up fast while everyone else deals with their sleeping tents.
